If your home doesn't seem to be very well lit this can be a real turnoff to prospective buyers when selling your house. Lighting can not only enhance the looks of your home to the naked eye it can make your home. appear more vibrant. If you’ve lived in the same house for more than 10 years it might be time to update your lighting fixtures or even replace them – especially if they’ve grown stained, dirty or if any of the covers have cracks. If it turns out you need to do a lot at work in this area it could gobble up a big percentage of your remodeling budget but you just may have to bite the bullet and do it.
Add a fresh coat of paint
If you've been in your home for a fairly long period of time, then some of your rooms might need new coats of paint. What about your kids' rooms? Did your son decide that two of his walls needed to be bright orange as a tribute to his favorite sports team or your daughter just had to have a totally pink bedroom? Then you'll definitely want to repaint those rooms. You should probably repaint as much of your house as you can afford in a very neutral color. If you're not sure what that would be ask your realtor.
How about those floors?
If some or all your floors look old or in a state of disrepair this can drive down the price of your home. If you have wall-to-wall carpeting that’s stained, you'll need to have it cleaned. Stains and worn spots, can make your home look very ugly. If you have hardwood floors they shouldn’t be excessively dirty or scraped. Getting floors refinished or replacing wall-to-wall carpeting can be expensive but it just might be necessary.
